Yie Flies – PDF download of the story.
Yie pattered down the green leaf. He licked his fingers, and ran them up his antenna. Yie liked his antenna to stand straight up with a curl at the tip. At the center of the leaf he stopped. Today was the day. He was going to fly. Yie opened his wings. They were still damp. A warm breeze ruffled his wings until they were dry.
He looked at his chrysalis, and smiled. It had been fun to be a caterpillar, but he had always been busy eating milkweed. The summer sun warmed his black body. He flapped his wings. They felt strong. Hurray! He pranced to the tip of the leaf. The view was wonderful!
Yie opened his wings, and soared into the sky.
